about me

who are you?

photo of mike

My name is Mike Hamburg. I'm a graduate student at Stanford University, where I study computer science, hang out with the Reformed University Fellowship, and enjoy the sunshine.

research interests

Research is interesting. I enjoy studying many areas of math and computer science, and I've done work in languages, systems, security and cryptography. Right now I'm mostly working on cryptography, because it combines mathematics and computer science in a very elegant way. I get to work on projects where I have to simultaneously consider instruction scheduling, linear algebra, Galois theory, and resistance to timing attacks.

contact info

The best way to contact me most of the time is by email, but if it's urgent (and if you know me), feel free to call my cell.

about shiftleft.org

photo of catameringue

shiftleft.org is hosted from the Riddlair, so the upload speed should be somewhat better now. It's on the newly rebuilt machine catameringue. It's still running a small, underpowered mainboard, but it's in a somewhat fancier case than before. It's quite power efficient — 16 watts at idle — and it generally does its job pretty well. Unless I start running something heavy here, this arrangement should work for a few years.

The name comes from my handle, bitwiseshiftleft, not from any sort of political affiliation. This is ironic, because I am decently liberal.
